Semana Santa 2026 – Volume II: Homage to Joaquín Turina is a monumental work of faith and sound — a symphonic tribute to the Sevillian composer Joaquín Turina Pérez (1882–1949) and his Funeral March for Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Pasión (1899). Dedicated to the Archconfraternity of the Blessed Sacrament and Royal Nazarenes of Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Pasión and Our Lady of Mercy (Seville), the piece was originally orchestrated for band by Manuel Font Fernández de la Herranz and later revised by Juan Manuel Marrero Domínguez (2014).
In this new version, Prof. Manuel Gago Fernández reimagines Turina’s sacred inspiration through an acoustic variety orchestra, modeled after the rich symphonic textures used by Dmitri Shostakovich. The instrumentation remains purely acoustic — woodwinds, brass, and percussion — with no guitars, pianos, or electronic sources. Each instrument was recorded individually and mixed in Dolby Atmos 11.1 / 96 kHz / 24-bit, capturing the natural resonance of Seville’s cathedrals.
Across twelve symphonic funeral marches, each exceeding six minutes and following a sacred pulse (half note = 42), the album unfolds as a spiritual journey: from the solemn darkness of the Processional Prayer for Nuestro Padre Jesús to the luminous final movement Eternal Devotion – Symphonic Prayer.
The result is a purely acoustic requiem, merging Andalusian devotion with symphonic modernity — a sacred conversation between Turina’s faith and Shostakovich’s orchestral drama, between the past and the eternal.
This album is both a resurrection and a tribute, a living testimony that the music of faith still breathes in the 21st century.
Under the vaults of sound and devotion, Turina’s march returns to Seville — not as nostalgia, but as resurrection.
