THE PEOPLE OF THE GARLIC
Everyone eats garlic, lives alongside Aliens and Witches, and follows one extraordinary rule: When they turn 22, they become plants If they don't, THEY GO MAD.
Imagine discovering an alien civilisation where everyone eats garlic, lives alongside aliens and witches, and follows one extraordinary rule:
When they turn 22, they become plants.
But they don't die.
They remember everything. Their childhoods, their families, their loves and their lives. They simply lose the ability to walk and speak and become part of a vast living world. To the People of the Garlic, this isn't a tragedy. It's the natural progression of life — and they embrace it.
Then humanity arrives.
A group of explorers from Earth discovers the planet and assumes they've found a civilisation suffering from a terrible biological condition. Believing they're saving these people, the explorers find a way to stop the transformation.
At first, it's a miracle.
Young people who would once have become plants can remain human. They can walk, talk, explore and live normal physical lives.
But then something goes horribly wrong.
Without the transformation, the people begin to change. Their emotions become extreme. Violence, paranoia, obsession and cruelty begin spreading through society.
The humans slowly discover the horrifying truth:
The transformation was never the problem. It was the solution.
For thousands of years, the People of the Garlic have lived peacefully because their civilisation has evolved around this strange biological cycle. By trying to give them "freedom," humanity may have unleashed something their world was designed to prevent.
Now an entire planet is caught between two ideas of what it means to be alive.
The humans believe everyone should have the right to remain human.
The People of the Garlic believe becoming a plant is simply the next stage of their existence.
And the people who refuse to transform are becoming increasingly dangerous.
With alien civilisations, witches, ancient planetary secrets and an escalating battle for the future of an entire world, THE PEOPLE OF THE GARLIC is an epic science-fiction fantasy with a very strange question at its heart:
