The Abandoned City Of Amber Some doors should never have been opened. In a forgotten age, beyond the reach of history, lies a magnificent civilisation built from ancient stone. Its vast cities are silent and forbidding, their towering buildings covered with millions of flowers, plants and trees. Yet beneath the eerie beauty lives a peaceful people of witches, wizards and magical beings who have mastered the art of good magic. Their world is powered by amber — more precious than gold or palladium — harvested not from mines, but from extraordinary magical trees that grow throughout their vast forests and jungles. These are no ordinary trees. They flower in dazzling colours, produce glowing fruit in millions of hues and release a magical air filled with beautiful aromas. The air can heal the sick and even extend life. The people of Amber do not simply grow these trees. They love them. The trees are regarded as their children. They are never cut down. They are cared for, spoken to and listened to — because the trees can speak back. For thousands of years, the civilisation has lived in harmony with them. Until humanity finds a way in. When a young member of a modern group inherits a strange, filthy object from their grandmother, nobody knows what it is. It looks like nothing more than an old, dirty melon sculpture. But during a dinner party, the mysterious object is cleaned. Suddenly, it begins to glow with millions of colours. A gigantic doorway materialises in the room and gracefully glides open. Beyond it lies a world that should not exist. The City of Amber. The humans step through. At first, they believe they have discovered the greatest wonder in human history. But their fascination soon turns into curiosity — and curiosity becomes temptation. Seeing the magnificent amber trees, they begin to wonder whether they could make the perfect Christmas trees. They decide to cut some down. One tree. Then another. And they conduct a simple experiment: how long can these extraordinary trees survive without water? They are about to discover that the trees are not merely connected to one another. They are one living organism. The people of Amber feel the first tree die. Then another. Their peaceful civilisation erupts in fury. The humans flee back through the magical doorway, believing the danger has been left behind. They are wrong. The people of Amber find the doorway to Earth. Armies of magical beings pour
