Cover of "A Whiter Shade Of Pale", written by Keith Reid, Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher, released as a debut single by Procol Harum on 12 May 1967. Producer was Denny Cordell. The song reached #1 on the UK Singles chart and remained there for six weeks. It was #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was #1 in many other countries. It is one of the most commercially successful singles in history having sold more than 10 million copies. More than 1,000 other artists have recorded cover versions. In 1977 it was joint winner of "The Best British Pop Single 1952-1977" at the Brit Awards. In 1998 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, Phonographic Performance Limited -- a professional rights group -- recognised it as the most played record by British Broadcasting in the previous 70 years.
