Layer, Timeline, and Trigger: The Basics
This lesson teaches you how to build a video story. It uses three simple ideas.
1. Layer (The Layers)
A layer is something you see at the same time.
Think of a video like this:
You see the sea.
You see lyrics on the screen.
You see light effects on top.
These three things are stacked together. This is a "Layer."
2. Timeline (The Flow of Time)
A timeline is the schedule for your video.
Think of a 3-minute song:
0:00 – Show the sunrise.
0:20 – Show someone walking.
0:50 – Show the sea.
...and so on until the end.
Putting scenes in order is the "Timeline."
3. Trigger (The Reason for Change)
A trigger is the reason why a scene changes.
For example:
When the chorus starts, the light gets brighter.
When the singer says "Thank you," the person smiles.
The start of the chorus or the specific word is the "Trigger."
To put it simply:
Think of making a lunch box (bento):
Layer: How you place the food.
Timeline: The order you eat it.
Trigger: Opening the lid or taking a bite to move to the next step.
In this lesson, you will learn how to design what to show, when to show it, and what makes it change.
If the first lesson was about your "Plan," this lesson is about "Building the Plan" along the timeline. Let’s start!
