Make Translation Consistent With a Mini Glossary
If you want your localized content to sound professional, consistency matters more than you think.
And the simplest consistency tool is not complicated: it’s a mini glossary.
Here are three ways to build one that actually helps creators.
Point one: start with recurring terms, not every word.
Look at your last few videos and list the terms that repeat: tool categories, feature names, metrics, and common phrases.
You don’t need hundreds. Start with 20.

Point two: decide what must never be translated.
Brand names, product names, channel names, and sometimes specific frameworks should stay consistent.
If you allow them to be translated differently in different episodes, your audience gets confused and your subtitles look messy.
Point three: add pronunciation notes for voice work.
If you dub, write the pronunciation you want—especially for names. This prevents the same name being said differently across videos, which is distracting.
Here’s a quick example.
If you say “retention” in one episode and “watch-time retention” in another, a translator might choose two different terms in the target language. Viewers then think you’re talking about two different concepts.
A glossary prevents that. It turns your repeated language into a stable “dictionary” for your channel, so every episode sounds like it comes from the same creator.
Common mistakes to avoid:
- Trying to build a huge glossary on day one and never updating it again.
- Letting different translators or tools invent different terms each time.
- Forgetting to protect brand terms and proper nouns from being “helpfully translated.”
Quick checklist for today:
1) Collect 20 recurring terms from your last three scripts.
2) Mark: translate / don’t translate / transliterate.
3) Add pronunciation notes for the top 10 names.
4) Add one “definition sentence” for each key concept term.
5) Reuse the same terms in your next two episodes on purpose.
You don’t need a huge system to sound consistent. A small glossary gives you most of the benefit with a fraction of the work.
