The Archive of Dreams

By Absolute Elsewhere
108 Plays

Dusty shelves hum with forgotten names, Dreams locked tight in paper frames. One file opens—a painter once bright, Sold his colors for black-and-white. His hands still move, but the spark is gone, He paints by rules they forced him on. A rainbow lost to factory gray, Another dream filed, tucked away. Next drawer creaks, its secret bleeds, A dancer broke her feet for needs. Once she flew where no one dared, Now she walks halls of office chairs. The stage still waits, but she won’t return, The rhythm’s dead, but her stomach earns. She traded wings for chains of bread, And left her song in this room instead. This is the archive of dreams betrayed, Where voices whisper what they’ve paid. Every file’s a silent scream, A life once burning, now just a theme. Another file, sealed with dust, A rebel who fought but broke his trust. Once he raised his voice so loud, Now he bows, just part of the crowd. The fire he had turned into ash, His banner’s gone for a safer cash. Freedom’s cost was too much to hold, So he left his truth for a pocket of gold. The keeper speaks in a voice so low: “Every dream here chose to go. Some were stolen, some were sold, But all were traded long before they grew old.” This is the archive of dreams betrayed, Where voices whisper what they’ve paid. Every file’s a silent scream, A life once burning, now just a theme. The last file opens, soft and small, A child’s handwriting on the wall. He once dreamed of building skies, Now he stacks bricks with empty eyes. They taught him fast what not to be, Crushed his hope with "reality." The future’s filed before it begins, Another life lost in paper-thin bins. © 2025 Absolute Elsewhere. All rights reserved. Unauthorized use or redistribution is prohibited.
