ARIOSO (by J. S. Bach) from Cantata BWV 156 "Sinfonia"

The piece commonly known today as Bach’s “Arioso” originates from the opening Sinfonia of the sacred cantata Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe (BWV 156), composed during Johann Sebastian Bach’s years in Leipzig and first performed in 1729. In the original cantata, the lyrical melody is entrusted to a solo oboe, accompanied by strings and continuo. Bach had already used essentially the same music in the slow movement of his Harpsichord Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056, and the melody is generally believed to derive from an earlier, now-lost instrumental concerto.
