The Old Blood

The old noble houses were powerful long before the present king took the throne. Their money built halls, their families held keeps and their networks reached through trade, officers, gates and local loyalties. The king pushed them away from the centre of power, but removing them from court did not erase the structure they had built.
They do not create the Castaway or control his return. They do something quieter: keep routes open, move resources, preserve relationships and prepare a place into which an alternative might eventually fit. What appears to others as a sudden return has, beneath the surface, been made possible by years of patient opposition.
