The king’s personal Guard was shaped by a world where survival came before ideals. Born into violence and poverty, he learned that skill keeps you alive and weakness gets used against you. Service to the crown offered him food, status and purpose, but never turned that bargain into faith.
In the final confrontation, his experience works exactly as it should. He is the better fighter. What defeats him is something he has never learned to calculate: another person deliberately accepting the fatal opening in order to protect someone else. For a man who understands every movement through survival, sacrifice lies outside the rules of the fight. Only too late does he recognize that some people are willing to die for something larger than themselves.
