The Farmer

The Farmer lives far from the royal court, where kings and claims matter less than weather, harvests, family and whether there will be enough for another year. The royal festival reaches him only days later, reduced to tavern gossip: a stranger appeared before the king, an old name was spoken, and something went wrong.
He has seen rulers and hard years come and go, so he has little reason to choose a side. But some changes are harder to ignore. Patrols ride with sharper eyes, words become more cautious, and the familiar rhythm of the countryside begins to feel different. To him, crowns are temporary. The land remains. Yet when distant struggles begin to disturb ordinary life, even a conflict at court becomes impossible to dismiss.
