Heywood. Wrong block, wrong hour, somebody else's war. We're pinned behind a burned-out Villefort while rounds chew concrete off the wall above us. Somebody's screaming for a medic. Then this kid moves. New face. Medtech. Still has that clean look people get before Night City teaches them better. He's maybe twenty meters away, crouched behind a dumpster with his kit hugged against his chest like it might stop bullets. Somebody yells: "Rabbit!" And the kid fucking runs. Not away. Across. Full sprint through open street, rounds snapping around him, because somebody is bleeding out on the other side. That's when I hear it. Not music yet. Rhythm. Rabbit. Rabbit. Run, rabbit, run. Fresh meat. New medic. Doesn't know anybody's name yet. Nobody knows his. Doesn't matter. The old medic got dusted and now this scared little fucker is crawling into the space where somebody died. That's the FNG. Everybody treats you like you're temporary until suddenly you're the reason they're still breathing. I watched him disappear behind the wreckage and thought: Don't need his name. Don't care. We'll talk names someday. Earn your fucking pay. By the time the shooting stopped, I already had the chorus. EFFNGEE.
